How to Tell if Your Double-Pane Windows Need to be Replaced

New double-pane windows provide a host of benefits for homeowners in South Burlington, one being increased energy efficiency. No matter if you’re looking online or with an expert at a showroom, energy efficiency is a crucial factor in the purchasing process for replacement windows. Double-pane windows are a great choice if you’re looking for increased efficiency.

Many new double-pane windows are filled with argon, a colorless, nontoxic gas that is more dense than air, which leaves you with additional insulation from heat and cold.. However, if you note that your windows have become “foggy” or if they have developed condensation, you may have developed a larger leak and the gas has been substituted with moisture. There are a couple things that you can do to determine if this is the case:

  1. Clean the exterior and interior portion of your glass to make sure that the condensation or fog you’re seeing is in between the glass, not on the glass.
  2. If you find out that the moisture is in fact between the glass, you can get ahold of the manufacturer to find out if you can make a warranty claim.
Depending on how long your windows have been around and the conditions surrounding the leak, it may make sense to start researching replacement windows. Insulation is one of the most important qualities of your windows, and if that is altered it can impact your heating and cooling expenses.
